Widget is now a popular word for tools or content that you can add, arrange, and remove from the sidebars of your blog. It is a small program that make it easy to customize the content of your blog sidebar. In more technical sense- This specification standardizes a packaging format for software known as widgets. Widgets are client-side applications that are authored using Web standards, but whose content can also be embedded into Web documents.

In personal blog with blogger or wordpress writing you may have introduced with widgets. If you have built site with web builders and used their drag and drop options then you also must be very familiar with the term. The advantage of widgets is that you don’t need to know how to program to use them. Installing a web widget on your site, whether it be a personalized start page or a blog, is a simple matter of copying the code and pasting it into the appropriate place on your site.

There are two ways in which a widget can be used in the site. In first case, a widget is a placeholder, referring to any sort of mechanical artifact. The precise identity of the item is not important, and a placeholder is used so that people do not become distracted. The term is also used to describe hypothetical products which may someday be invented, or products which are in the development stages. A widget may do any number of things, from organizing a blogger’s posts by topic to allowing people to play interactive games with other users of a website.
